Some delectable photography from the Urban Outfitters May 2010 Catalogue, much needed after a lackluster may weekend and week.

Bridal Bed
While sleeping this morning I had a dream that it was my wedding night. I can't remember my husbands face, but I knew that we had slept together before, and yet as it happened I cried. And because that seemed like a failure, we tried again, but were interrupted by some woman entering the room. The woman watched as we stayed, him covering my body.
What a strange thing to wake up to.

Summer Reads
With the semester coming to an end, normally I would be leaving books to the wayside in exchange for bright sunny days at the beach, and relaxing to music in the park. This summer though, that doesn't seem like an option. Thanks to one very enthusiastic professor over the last semester, my love for the novel has been rekindled, and here are a few things that I will be indulging in this summer.
After learning about this novel on We Love You So, I couldn't wait to read it, and immediately went to check it out on Amazon. Unfortunately the paperback isn't being released until May 25th, so I'll have to wait patiently. Here's a description of the unconventional work:
"In Light Boxes, the inhabitants of one closely-knit town are experiencing perpetual February. It turns out that a god-like spirit who lives in the sky, named February, is punishing the town for flying, and bans flight of all kind, including hot air balloons and even children's kites. It's February who makes the sun nothing but a faint memory, who blankets the ground with snow, who freezes the rivers and the lakes. As endless February continues, children go missing and more and more adults become nearly catatonic with depression. But others find the strength to fight back, waging war on February."
I was really excited to study this novel in my Love, Sex and Gender in Literature class, but it was cut from our syllabus due to time constrictions. I guess I'll have to just take it on myself.
After reading both Orlando and Mrs. Dalloway this semester, I have gotten a slight bit Virginia Woolf obsessive. Said to be her masterpiece, the novel has also been described to me as being very dense and difficult to get through. I hope I can make it!

Sink or Swim
Am finally going to order this two piece swimsuit from Urban Outfitters. I have been debating it for a while, and though its a little more costly then I would like for a swimsuit, I figure its worth the investment. I find it really difficult to find swimwear that I actually like, and this combines all of the qualities I have been searching for (many friends have told me that it just looks like underwear, but who wouldn't want to be prancing around the beach in their fanciest undergarments?). With its highwaisted bottoms and an underwire bikini top I'm sure it will be well loved this summer, and summers to come.

I had some brand new shoes
Finally got my new spring shoes! My first outing with them was a trip to the park with Lindsay and Solange, followed by dinner at some shady Ossington diner. Felt a little silly at first sinking into the soft ground, but eventually got the hang of them. Will definitely take a little more breaking in, but managed to wear them out that night as well (with grey socks!).

My Baby, My Darling
I absolutely love when I stumble across actual representations of the aesthetic I envision for myself. These designs by Twenty-Seven Names fit seamlessly into my daydreams of afternoon croquet and wine (stolen from M. Blash's Lying). Romantic sheer sleeves, lace and highwaisted pleated shorts have me hoping that the warm days as of late are here to stay. Am also loving the idea of socks which have been everywhere, and would love to pair some with my oxfords, but everytime I try it out it seems to look funny. I'm just so used to going sockless, but they do look so cute paired with a sundress and hat.

Lovely Thursday Surprises!
Am finally going to sit down and listen to the new She & Him album today! Went to their myspace and was greeted with this adorable video for In the Sun. On a side note, why do all of my favorite songs as of late involve the word sun?

a mark or impression made by the foot on the ground
Unisa Quill Vachetta Wooden Platform
I'm hoping tomorrow I'll get a chance to sneak away from essay writing and do some much needed spring shoe shopping. I've been really into this earthy cognac color in footwear for a while, but recent pairings on liebemarlene vintage has put this look into my 'must have right this second' file. I'm hoping to find something with a chunky heel and platform so I can make it through spring walks to Nadege or down Ossington with ease. Can't wait to go looking!

Frame made of Wood
Loving Local Natives right now. Listening to them, I can't wait for those intentionally lonely park days to come. Laying face up in the sun (self consciously because I can't see anything approaching unless its from the sky), and waking up with grass in my hair to Airplanes would definitely be agreeable.

Woman A becomes Woman B
What I've been watching this week:
A Study of Legs by Jim Helton. So far there are 10 short segments to watch, each one fanciful and poetic. Definitely worth checking out.

Stalling
As I drift through my everyday actions I mostly feel fine. I've tried to separate myself from the feelings of loneliness which inevitably lead to want. I mask the deep desire to reach out to you, to any of you, in the middle of the day. I can make something beautiful on my own. As much as I continue to get through the day somewhat composed, there is still this subtle pounding in my throat that cuts down to my stomach and bursts up to my eyes and makes me want someone. I start to wonder if I'm getting through the day by means of my own strength, or Monday's 1am hook up text, love the one I never hear from. I really hope I'm slowly helping myself shed some of this obsessive behaviour when it comes to these guys, but I'm afraid I'm just putting it off; stalling it. The new ones, the guinea pigs for this new self experiment, keep reappearing in my dreams, more frequently than usual. These dreams (just a continuation of my subconscious throughout the day) are making it hard to get out of bed.

Here are some photos from our trip to Peterborough a while back! These were all taken throughout the (amazing) weekend on disposable cameras, which I think are a great addition to any road trip. enjoy.

And you search your heart
Lately I find myself staying in bed. I'm not tired, and I don't always fall back asleep. I stretch my arm out across the right side of the bed that I leave open. I can spend up to an hour like this, morning dreams racing through my mind and writing our narrative. Without realizing it, I press my lips to the inside corner of my elbow. This can go on, lips moving, stretching my other arm across to hold my own hand, but eventually I always jump out as quick as I fell in. I fear these projections of a future are interrupting my own memories; I worry I won't always be able to separate what really goes on between us and these rainy morning images, or worse, that I will begin to favor the romance I create in solitude.

find yourself a cup of tea; the teapot is behind you
Taking two weekdays to fully recover from our weekend visit to Peterborough was definitely fitting, but does it ever seem like the time has passed to retell the tale of a wondrous weekend away? While waiting on some lazy adventurers to develop the disposable cameras we made use of throughout the weekend, I thought I would post a few of the digitals we took at Lindsay's family's store. (we managed to wedge this visit in between chinese food, theatre, Philadelphia/grey gardens, a trip to the zoo, value village, a spring bbq, concert, and Alice)
I can't help but think of lovely Ms. Potts...
Lindsay's thought "I'm surprised we don't have a birdcage" was correct. I am surprised.
I wish I had of paid more attention to the poster behind this one
My favorite teacup in the antiques section.
Two Versions of Summer
Here are both Lindsay and I's idealized versions of the spring/summer to come!

She changes everytime she lies across his bed
I think I always thought of myself as the victim in most of my romantic endeavors. But I'm allowing myself to figure out that when you start to daydream about things ending at the very second they begin, you sort of assign yourself that role. Though I don't want to, I keep thinking about the two that I always fall back on, and how it probably won't be that long until I'm calling them at 3am. I say that's not what I want, I know that's not what I want, but to tell the truth I'm kinda scared to let them go.
